Veneers are thin porcelain coverings that are placed on the surface of your teeth usually for cosmetic reasons. They can mask discolouration, close spaces between teeth and repair chipped front teeth. They can also be used to correct minor discrepancies in tooth alignment, although orthodontic treatment (braces, Clearstep) should also be given careful consideration in these cases. Crowns are indicated when a lot of tooth substance has been lost through decay or trauma, or where a tooth has a large filling or has been root filled. A crown is a tooth-shaped shell that fits over the remnants of a natural one. Teeth that are severely discoloured or out of position can also be improved by crowning.
